Tales of Monkey Island - Chapter 1 - (Warning - Spoilers)

Tales of Monkey Island drops you in at the deep end, making you work out how to cross ships to get to the evil LeChuck. It's confusing, and infuriating with Elaine telling you hints that you can't hear. ToMI is made for people who have played part of the series before, and you can tell this, as like its predecessors, it makes huge numbers of references to previous jokes, and if you're playing it for the first time, it makes you laugh awkwardly. It makes you feel like an outcast, a newbie in the world of Screeching Monkeys, and Mighty Pirates

ToMI is split up into 5 chapters, all completely different, and all running along the same story. It was released in 5 consecutive months

Chapter  1 starts off with how you create a curse which infects Flotsam Island, which you are marooned on, and cannot leave, due to a bizarre wind cycle. You must then commandeer a boat, and also make the winds turn, so you can depart.  The story is not very simple, and the way you go about solving the story is even more difficult, and I had to rely heavily on a guide. The game just doesn't make sense, use the cheese on the jail carvings, then it can be part of a altar. It mirrors the kind of play that was in previous games, although I think it's actually easier than previous titles. it  has a variety of characters, from bitter pirates, to weird voodoo lady, it's all pretty fun to see how you interact as "Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate". The controls, are unsurprisingly heavily laid on the mouse, but the use of the "WASD" keys is rather helpful.
The Graphics are surprisingly good compared to previous versions, with the cartooned Guybrush surprisingly not an eyesore, which I expected it to be.

ep1 1
The chapter is surprisingly long for just  the first of five parts, with it being the longest of the lot, even though it has not that much story. I presume that it would be quicker if you have played Monkey Island games before, and actually after playing the game, I was quicker as I had a better understanding of the game (and I had a walkthrough sitting next to me)

My Rating: 7.1 : fun, but too confusing for new people, and far too long compared to the other chapters

Look out for my next instalment, coming tomorrow
