- CNET “no one really cares about E3”

An editor from CNET believes that E3’s excitement fades year by year. He thinks that in order for E3 to remain relevant, it need showcase new and unique hardware annually. He claims that the Wii U is not new hardware because it was introduced at E3 2011. There are many ideas shared by the editor, which he claims will make this year’s E3 better. One statement given by the editor, for example, is that game systems “should be cheap, and sell content subscriptions.” Are you willing to pay periodically in order to continue playing your video games?

- Nintendo teases three Wii U games on their Facebook page

Nintendo of America has teased its Facebook fans with three spaces for Wii U first party launch titles. We already know that Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros Mii and Pikmin 3. Any guesses as to what the third mystery title might be?

”Guess what the initial game releases will be for Nintendo’s new home console, Wii U? Soon we’ll scratch off to reveal the names! ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒.”

- G4 “A lot of people are still confused about the Wii u”

The co-host of the G4’s gaming show X-Play, Morgan Webb, believes that Nintendo’s main problem with the Wii U is its name. Although it has been almost a year since the Wii U was revealed, Webb thinks that people still don’t know that it is different from a Wii. Webb also believes that it is going to be difficult to convince people that playing a Wii U could be more fun than gaming on an iPad. If this is true, how should Nintendo distinguish the Wii U from any other gaming platform?

- Wii u will have an achievement system?

TECHTROID recently spoke to an anonymous developer who is familiar with the Wii U. The developer revealed that Nintendo will implement an achievement system into their new console. It is said to have a “Nintendo-spin,” which will make it unique and different from Nintendo’s competitors. Nintendo already has challenges within many of their games, which need to be accomplished in order to unlock certain content – do you think the Wii U will benefit from a console-specific achievement system?

- Nintendo’s pre e3 announcements

Sony

- Assassin’s creed 3, Ghost Recon outed for PS Vita

A pair of as-yet unannounced PlayStation Vita games have been spotted on the official websites for retailer giants GAME and Zavvi. First up is Ghost Recon: Final Mission, which popped up on GAME’s website for pre-order at £34.99. According to the listing, it'll be released some time in 2012.

Finally, Assassin’s Creed 3 has been listed on Zavvi’s website for release alongside its console counterpart on October 31, 2012. The game is priced at €39.55 (roughly £32). It’s worth remembering that while an Assassin’s Creed game has been announced for Sony’s new handheld, it wasn't known whether or not it would be a side-story or a port of the third game. As for Ghost Recon, well, that’s more of a surprise as this is the first we've heard of it.

- Quantic dream to unveil its new game at E3?

CVG has caught wind that Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream is planning on lifting the veil off its new project at E3 next week. Citing a ‘trusted senior development source, the report states that the company is busy beavering away on two games for Sony, though it isn’t currently known if they’re both for PlayStation 3. Naturally, Quantic Dream has been a hot topic as of late following its stunning real-time tech demo Kara, which was displayed at GDC back in March.

The studio, founded by David Cage, has been tipped to make an announcement regarding its new game at E3 for some time now. In fact, it was rumored to reveal its next game at E3 2011, though that obviously didn't happen.

- Sony to announce revamped Play Station plus at E3?

Sony plans to announce some sweeping changes to the PlayStation Plus subscription service that will better integrate PS Vita content, according to a report from Eurogamer. The announcement would be revealed and detailed during Sony’s press conference at E3. PS Plus would give subscribers more top tier games for free and even exclusive Vita titles and DLC and cloud services. This would allow you to back up Vita saves and other content on the cloud without a direct connection to PC or PS3. All of this information right now is based on unnamed sources, but it’s not a stretch to believe Sony will make some changes to PS Plus to encourage more subscribers.

If you had a say in new features for PS Plus—or even the regular PlayStation Network service—what would you like to see? We’ve heard other rumors about changes to the PSN recently, including surveys detailing possible tiers. Would you be interested in a tiered service, or do you just want the basics for free for everyone?

- Sony considered having the PS4 digital only

At one point in the conceptual or development stages of Sony’s next console, the Japanese company considered a download-only platform. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, which references “sources familiar with the matter,” Sony decided to take the classic disc route instead of providing a console that relies entirely on digital game distribution.

For many, this may come as a sign of relief considering the vocal opposition to this move with the PSPGo. But a model that relies entirely on digital distribution would have prevented many with poor internet connections across the world from having reliable access to content, according to the WSJ report. Retail stores that sell games would likely be up-in-arms with the switch, as well.

There are also rumors that either Sony or Microsoft will announce more cloud gaming support. This announcement is expected at E3. The report also states Sony will release its next home console in 2013.

What are your thoughts on a digital-only console? If you had a solid internet connection, would you opt for digital games, or disc-based games? Let us know in the comments below.

- New Hitman: absolution trailer

Yesterday there were some reports flying around about a screenshot showing silhouetted figures in reference to Hitman: AbsolutionSome took it as a potential sign that we could be looking at a multiplayer component to the next entry in the Hitman series. Well, as the trailer that was just released will attest, that image was not so much a hint at multiplayer, but moreso a depiction of the women in nun outfits that Agent 47 has absolutely no issue punching, kicking, and shooting. Oh, and using as a human shield. See for yourself:

- First trailer for Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC

New mounts, the crossbow, vampires, mounted combat... Whoo-boy, this is a biggun! The Dawnguard appear to be a faction that fight against the vampires and other nasties of the night. Is it out yet? Can it be released soon? Please? Pretty please?

Still no release date, but you can agree with me that this is looking fantastic.

- The Human Element revealed

Robert Bowling, who previously worked at Infinity Ward on the Modern Warfare series, has finally decided the time is right to show off his new game. Bowling’s latest project is titled Human Element, and the story appears to be based around survival. Human Element is in development for next generation consoles, PC, mobile and tablets. We should hear more about the game at E3 next week.

“Their greatest strength is the fear that [zombies] instill in us, the survivors, that unreasonable fear. Unreasonable fear that leads us to do unreasonable things to survive.”

“Human Element ‘s character creation system allows players to choose between three different character classes, Action, Intelligence, and Stealth, and three different identities, Survive Alone, Survive with a Partner, and Survive with a Young Child.”

“How you choose to start in the world will determine how you can engage and impacts the scenarios you will be presented with on a physical and morality level.”
